Indebtedness or Abundance Coexist !

A devotee asked a question to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: God is all abundant, all full and we are connected to God. Then why are we in debt, except for some? Why do they have, and we don't have?
Wisdom from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Is it only money? You have abundance, yet at the same time, you are indebted. So how can both be true? How can you be indebted and at the same time have abundance?
Somebody said: An abundance of indebtedness!
He further said: When you say you are indebted, that means you have received. Otherwise how can you be indebted? So be thankful for being indebted, because you have received. Those who have received should feel indebted. If you don't feel indebted, you cannot have abundance. So the more indebted you feel, the more abundance you have.
Again a devotee asked Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When the disciples met Jesus, they were not very successful, did not catch very many fish. When they met Jesus, he told them exactly where to fish and that's when they got lots of fish and then they decided to follow Jesus. (Laughter)
He replied: Feel indebted. Feel gratitude. Then abundance comes. As long as you are wanting for abundance you get indebted. Feel indebtedness and gratitude, then abundance comes.
Abundance and indebtedness coexist. You think you are indebted, but you really are not. It is better to feel totally indebted, because every bit of what you have doesn't belong to you, including your body. Then you are infinitely indebted for your body, for Knowledge, for things you have received, and for your own life. Then you bask in the abundance of the Creator. Then someone just said I feel very indebted. Thank you!

Make Good Use of All Things : Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Wisdom by Spiritual leader and Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

"Offer all the desires and your sankalpas to the Divine... then you are divine... you are God... you are free... lacking nothing." - Wisdom from Sri SriRavi Shankar

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar shares:
This couplet needs to be pondered over and over; for a whole lifetime is not sufficient enough to digest this knowledge.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar expands:
One who has given everything has also given freedom: Honor the freedom first and make good use of all things given to you.
Your sankalpas (intentions) and desires separate you from God.
Offer all the desires and your sankalpas to the Divine... then you are divine... you are God... you are free... lacking nothing.
Effort is the key in the relative, Effortlessness is the key to the Absolute.
Your mind does not belong to you. Don't blame it.
Let the BIG SELF embrace it!

How Does a Desire Arise? : Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

“A desire arises with the memory of a pleasant experience and past impressions.” - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar describes 4 ways:
A desire might arise through listening.

Someone else's need or desire may manifest in you as your own desire, e.g. when someone is hungry, you get a desire to feed them or someone wants to talk to you and you get a desire to talk to them.

The destiny or a happening in which you have a part to play may trigger a desire of which you have no idea. For example, a gentleman in Quebec, Canada kept making roads and working on a farm for 30 years, not knowing for what - for it was destined to become our Canadian Ashram!

BE CREATIVE!

“When you are creative, you break the monotony of time.” - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

CREATIVITY & TIME

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says :

“Creativity brings a new beginning for "time". When you are creative, you break the monotony of time. Everything becomes fresh and alive.”

CREATIVITY MAKES YOU ENTHUSIASTIC

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar elaborates :

“Creativity brings along with it a new round of enthusiasm. Both creative and procreative impulses in nature are associated with enthusiasm. When you are enthusiastic you are closer to the creative principle of existence.”

CREATIVITY ARISES FROM SILENCE
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar points out:
“Deep silence is the mother of creativity. No creativity can come out of one who is too busy, worried, over-ambitious or lethargic.”
HOW TO KEEP UP THE CREATIVE IMPULSE
“Balanced activity, rest and yoga can kindle skills and creativity in you.”
So, balance your life with work, rest, Yoga and Meditation, and watch your creative juices flow!

Committment Brings Strength : Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

"Whatever you are committed to brings you strength" - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Question: Why is it easier for some of us to commit to our own welfare rather than that of others?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Because you do not know that whatever you are committed to brings you strength. If you are committed to your family then your family supports you, if you are committed to your society, you enjoy the support of society. If you are committed to God, God gives you strength. If you are committed to Truth, Truth brings you strength.
Often one is not aware of this idea and that is why one is hesitant to commit to a greater cause. Also there is a fear that commitment would weaken one or take away one's freedom. Your commitment to a cause is bound to bring you comfort in the long run. Commitment in life grows toward a higher cause. The higher the commitment, greater is the good for all.
Noah: Why don't we make any vows in the Art of Living?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: When the path is charming, commitment is effortless and is part of your nature.
Mikey: In Art of Living we don't make vows, we have Wows! (laughter).

What’s Your Choice? : Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Very often we are stuck between choices. This leads to a lot of confusion. We wonder which is the best choice to make out of the myriad choices available. What do you suggest so that the choice we make turns out to be satisfactory?
Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar explains that, “The choice is always between good and the best or bad and worse.”
“Choice is never between good and bad. When there is a good and bad in front of you, there is no choice.”
“Your choice is only between bad and worse or good and the best. And when it is good and best, why do I have to worry so much. Okay fine, so what? Anyway it is good.”
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar concludes,
“The choice is always the confusion of wanting more. You know, you want more joy, more happiness, more something. It is good to have that up to certain limit. Beyond that, that becomes a cause of tension in life.”

Connecting to the Divine : Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

"Body, Mind, Breath, Intellect, Memory, ego and Self - When the seven strings are tuned, music happens." - Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

After tuning the seven strings of Veena, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said, “ This is what needs to be done before playing an instrument – tuning the instrument, and that is what we have been doing here – tuning the seven layers of existence to connect to the cosmic energy. Body, Mind, Breath, Intellect, Memory, ego and Self - When the seven strings are tuned, music happens.”
“Neither with action, nor with money and not even with prosperity, but by getting established in one’s inner self, one can connect to the infinity. Devotion is the primary requirement, and what to do to have devotion? Yoga, Meditation, Mantra chanting and Music. God is delighted by your devotion!”
We cannot understand the full essence totally but, when we have some experience then a little understanding follows. The knowledge is infinite and we cannot totally understand it but a little thirst for knowledge should be there.”
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar explains that there are two kinds of karma:
“Nitya karma – things that you do every day, such as kriya, introspecting on one’s origin, feeding birds and animals, preserving plants and spending sometime in contemplating on knowledge.”
“Anitya karma – things that you do once in a while. When you participate in the homas during Navratri, it takes care of your Anitya karma.”
“We should not be totally one sided – neither condemn the rituals nor get too much stuck with them. It is so beautifully said in the knowledge of Bhagwat Gita, “न कर्मणामनारम्भान्नैष्कर्म्यं पुरुषो अश्नुते। न च सन्न्यसनादेव सिद्धिं समधिगच्छति ॥”. The middle path is the Golden key!”
